Functional Movement

What is Functional Movement?

Functional Movement is movement that we perform throughout our daily lives and activities. Whether you are an athlete or recreational exerciser, improving functional movement gives you better balance, muscular strength and control. Our training mimics the way our bodies work; in multiple planes and with multiple joint actions, all of which requires sufficient muscle strength, stabilization and coordination.

Most traditional exercise programs work muscles in only a singular plane. Real life takes place in three planes. Sagittal, Coronal, and Transverse. Our exercises integrate the three planes of motion: front and back, side-to-side, and twisting. We prepare our clients for the true demands of any physical activity, thereby, reducing the chance for injury and improving performance.

Functional Training is

  • Designed to carry over to the demands of daily activities, recreation or sports performance.
  • Unique for every individual
  • Effective in maximizing performance
  • Helpful in reducing the risk of injury
  • Effective at every level of fitness, rehab to elite athlete
  • Improves sports performance
  • Time efficient
  • Predominately done while standing

Would you build a House on a Weak Foundation?

Most people who exercise today are choosing the wrong exercise or performing exercises incorrectly, both of which contribute to increased risk factors for musculoskeletal injuries. These injuries are occurring due in part to weak and/or tight muscles that create faulty movement patterns, which restrict the normal movement patterns needed for everyday life and sports. If remain unchecked, faulty movement patterns can result in long-term structural and performance problems.

The key objectives of our training is

  • To identify faulty movement patterns and imbalances, and,
  • To develop corrective strategies for restoring the body’s full function for everyday movement or athletic competition.

Roman Pilates uses a sequential method of teaching that focuses on the enhancement of movement skills for increased performance.

Our training requires an understanding of every client's unique movement patterns and learning styles in order to effectively create an environment to enhance performance.
