“Being on the wrong side of 50, sporting some extra kilos, being blessed with flat feet and having a job on my feet most of the day to boot, the need to address various body issues became very apparent!! Entering the Roman Pilates studio with neck shoulder and back problems, I was keen but-as is my nature- quite cynical. After only a few months of Pilates I started to feel completely different. Tom recognized each problem individually and started 'training' the surrounding muscles to support and share the load, easing my troublesome areas. Posture and general methods in movement were addressed resulting in becoming pain free, more flexible and giving me the ability to adjust my stance and feel more energetic..and just feel so much better!!! I would recommend Roman Pilates to anyone with any aches and pains or anyone who just wants to feel good about their body. I am happy to expand on this verbally or by email.”

The most common cause of musculoskeletal problems are due to muscle imbalance. Muscle imbalance will eventually lead to poor skeletal alignment, which can then result in restriction of movement and pain. As an Osteopath, I refer many of my patients to pilates to address their imbalances, and to learn to use their 'lazy' muscles. I have found over the years that the team at Roman Pilates have achieved great results with my patients, helping them to manage and improve their conditions. I firmly recommend pilates as the best mode of exercise in order to achieve a well balanced body, and am looking forward to working with the Roman Pilates team for many years to come.

I have been doing Pilates with Tom since early 2003. Despite being a doctor specialising in Musculoskeletal medicine and injuries, the knowledge I have gained in the last six years has helped me immensely, both personally and professionally. Whilst we are obviously taught the function and dysfunction of the various parts of the body in Medical school, the teaching of how it all functions together, in terms of core stability and posture are areas that were lacking. I can now immediately identify and treat postural imbalances, back and neck problems, giving better outcomes to my patients. A couple of weeks ago, one of my patients commented that I had a "gift" to recognise her problems on her first visit and diagnose it accurately. I have no such "gift". It is learned from 6 years of "study" with Tom.

From a personal point of view, I was "locked up" like many 40 somethings are from spending too much time behind a wheel in traffic and on a computer screen. My flexibility is dramatically improved and I have no knee or foot pain, which I previously suffered, as a result of weekly Pilates sessions.

I cannot recommend Pilates highly enough as an exercise regime to keep your body balanced and toned.

I have been a client of Tom Roman for over 10 years, from my early forties. Prior to commencing Pilates with him, I had recurring low back soreness, and generally felt stiff and tired. There is no doubt that doing pilates with Tom has eliminated all these problems and improved my flexibility, strength, balance, and sports capability enormously.

I have experienced Tom’s evolution of his pilates training from the “standard” form, by developing and incorporating new equipment, techniques and movements that enhance strength and balance training . I would strongly recommend Pilates, and in particular Roman Pilates, as the basis for long term fitness and flexibility.
